How To Run Windows System Restore

The Windows System Restore Utility is intended to enable you to reverse changes to your system that have made it unstable.

System Restore may be able to help you fix a problem that you are having with your computer.

This can be especially true if your computer has suddenly become very slow or has stopped responding altogether or is slow to respond.

One great feature of System Restore is that it will not affect your personal data such as documents, photos, emails and such.

If you don't think it has helped or may have even made your problem worse, it is possible to completely reverse the previous system restore action.

To run system restore:

  • Click your Start button.
  • Mouse over All Programs, Accessories, System Tools.
  • Click System Restore.
  • Click 'Restore my computer to an earlier time'.
  • Click 'Next'.
  • Select one of the Boldface Dates.
  • Click 'Next'.

  • Reboot you computer when prompted and see if you have corrected the problem you were having.

System Restore is not a backup program and it will not help you recover personal files that have been deleted or damaged.

You should back up your personal files and important data regularly using a backup program.
